Pregnancy

While attending the California College of Ayurveda, I wrote a paper about Caring for Mothers during Pregnancy.  You actually need to prepare for 3 years prior to conception if possible.  Start where you are if you're already pregnant, but be careful.  Start eating right as soon as you realize you need to and learn to prepare the food your baby will need from the Weston A. Price Foundation.  Try to wait 3 years before becoming pregnant again and make sure your body recovers from the stress of pregnancy.

People can live with trauma and illness their entire life because their mother didn't take care of herself or didn't know how to take care of herself during the pregnancy.  I wrote this paper in order to look at how ayurveda can improve the possibility of long term health in the child and later the adult.

An example of this is that if a child is born 6 weeks early, they miss out on 6 weeks of development and growth that was supposed to occur inside the mom.  The baby might be born feet first and have a traumatic birth process.  This could create a tendency toward fear in the baby.  Later, the adult has no explanation for  their fears and their tendencies created by them.

There are many good books and web sites about Ayurveda; you don't have to go to a special school to learn what you need to know to be healthy and well.

Weston A. Price Foundation

The Weston A. Price Foundation provides information on what they've found to be a healthy diet. Price was a dentist from the 1930s who studied indigenous peoples of that time and determined which diets caused the best dental health.  Mothers who ate this diet and then fed their children this diet appear to be in good health with strong teeth and properly formed jaws.   It does not align with the present government promoted diets.
